| LEAP: Programs & Services: Center for Personal Assistance
LEAP offers three levels of personal assistance training.
Home Health Aide Training: The Home Health Aide Training is a 4 week individualized, hands-on program designed to train persons with disabilities who are interested in working in the home health care field as home health aides, attendants, or personal care providers. This program focuses on basic care giving and job readiness skills such as:
- Body mechanics/transfer techniques
- Universal precautions/safety issues
- Personal care
- Clinical experiences
- CPR/first aid
- Communication/problem solving
State Tested Nurse Assistant Training: The State Tested Nurses Assistant (STNA) program is offered to qualified applicants. This program offers consumers the opportunity to upgrade skills leading to licensure, increased wages and employment options. Upon completion of the course, students are well prepared to take the state administered written and practical licensing exams for Nurse Aids.
Program graduates work with the CPA staff to find employment that complements their strengths, interests and abilities Employment options include home health care agencies, adult care homes, nursing facilities, hospitals, adult training centers, and assisting individuals at home or work.
Dining Assistance: A one-week, 30 hour, community based course designed to provide skills training for individual interested in working as Dining Assistants within nursing facilities. The course may also be used to enhance existing skills in order to increase marketability. The five-day course meets Monday through Friday, from 9:00-3:00. The class is located in various area nursing facilities utilizing classroom settings and clinical experiences to build skills.
