A program to empower individuals with disabilities in making informed life choices through benefits counseling

In January 2001, the Social Security Administration (SSA) began awarding COOPERATIVE AGREEMENTS to non-profit organizations around the country to establish community based Benefits Planning, Assistance and Outreach (BPAO) projects.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

1.  All SSDI beneficiaries and SSI recipients between 14 and 65 years of age who are potentially eligible to participate in Federal and State work incentive programs that are designed to assist beneficiaries with employment decisions to work. 

2.  Residents of one of these Northeast Ohio counties: Ashland, Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Erie,  Geauga, Huron, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Wayne.  (BPAO Service Area)

LEAP provides information and assistance to help eligible recipients:

  • Assess potential impact of employment and/or work incentives on benefits eligibility
  • Understand potential impact of changes in life situations
  • Identify and evaluate options
  • Develop consumer driven action and benefit management plans
