LEAP: Advocacy Activities:  Legislative Rally March 2007

At the end of March, LEAP and the Center for Mental Retardation (CMR) worked together to provide transportation for a group of self-advocates, family members and other advocates to attend the DD Council's Disability Public Policy Legislative Event in Columbus.

LEAP participants included: recent Job Link graduate Diego Miranda, and staff members Kathy Foley, Erika Rios-Sparks, and Melanie Hogan.  After a day of speakers and workshops dedicated to perfecting their advocacy skills, participants attended a rally at the statehouse followed by visits to their state senator and representative.  Diego, for instance, met with representatives Michael Skindell, Matt Lundy and Timothy DeGeeter to share his personal experiences searching for a job as a person who has a disability.  Read Job Link's News for Youth section for more pictures and information.
