ASL Basics
My name is Mary Earley and I work as a Program Coordinator in the Job Link Program. I work with students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, I am a certified sign language interpreter and a child of Deaf parents and Deaf grandparents.
It has been suggested that those who work at LEAP might be interested in learning basic sign language. With that in mind, we have decided to initiate “ASL Basics” on the LEAP website, introducing new sign language phrases each week.
American Sign Language, or ASL, has a grammar structure all its own and does not resemble English. Facial expressions and body language are an integral part of ASL grammar. I hope that you enjoy the lessons and I welcome feedback at any time. If you have specific phrases that you would like to see in ASL, please forward them to me at mearley@leapinfo.org.
Thank you, and enjoy!
Good job. Are you finished?
Thank you. You're Welcome. See you later. Good-bye.
I'm happy to see you.
Good morning - Good afternoon - Good night.
How are you? - I'm fine - I'm so-so - I'm not good.
It's cold outside - It's snowing
It's a beautiful day - The sun is shining
