S.B. 165 has been introduced in the Ohio Senate by Senator Eric Kearney.
The bill would increase by two (2) the membership on the local County Boards of MRDD and would require for the first time that individuals eligible to receive county board services be appointed to serve on the board along with others named in the existing law. Michael Rich, a Board Member from People First, has requested LEAP’s support for this bill and we are requesting our advocates to write to their Ohio State Senator and ask them to co-sponsor or support the bill.
LEAP believes, along with People First; that “now is the time for advocates to have a voice in state matters, (and) in county board decisions that will affect their lives and the lives of all people with disabilities in Ohio.” Michael is also looking for individuals who are eligible for county board services who may want to testify when the bill is heard probably early next year in the Senate.
If you would like to work with Michael, People First, and LEAP on this issue please contact Deborah Nebel, 216-696-2716 x. 106 at our DD Center for Public Policy.
And as always, if you take ACTION, let us know who you contacted and what response you received.
Thank you in advance for your advocacy.
