On a warm July night in 1985, Sergeant Jim Jenkins, a night-shift supervisor with the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, said good-night to his wife and 11-year-old son and headed to work. He was driving along dark, rural roads in Lorain County when suddenly a truck appeared in his path of his headlights. In the aftermath of the accident that resulted, Jim lost his vision.

The Cuyahoga County Council recently passed a resolution declaring each May as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) Awareness Month. The catalyst behind the resolution, Toni Temple, is a friend of LEAP who consulted LEAP founder Doris Brennan as she established her onw nonprofit advocacy group, the Ohio Network for the Chemically Injured (ONFCI).
