LEAPIssues & Advocacy: Lifespan Respite Care Act

Call our Ohio Senators and ask them to sign on to the attached “Dear Colleague” budget Letter-written by Senators Clinton (D) & Warner (R).

In Dec. of 2006, Congress passed the Lifespan Respite Care Act—which is designed to provide respite services to family caregivers.  Now the Act needs to be funded and the “Dear Colleague” letter urges the Senate Budget Committee to authorize the funding in the Senate Budget Resolution.

Ask our Senators to support the funding of $289 million so that the Act can be fully funded through 2012.

Both Senators can be reached through the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 (ask for their Health Legislative Aide) or locally for

Senator Voinovich-216-522-7095

Senator Brown-216-522-7272

Note:  When calling Senator Brown’s office, thank him for his support of the Act when he was in the House of Representatives.  He was a co-sponsor of the House bill.  Now we are asking him to continue his support for the Act by asking that funds be authorized in the next federal budget.

Thanking you in advance for your advocacy-

Deborah

P.S.  If you do make a call, please send me an email to let me know.  Also let me know if they say they are in support of funding for Respite Care for the family caregivers of persons with disabilities and our elders.
