The Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging (WRAAA) gave its 2010 Disability award to LEAP. Melanie Hogan, executive director, accepted the award at a June 9 ceremony preceding the WRAAA 2010 Conference on Independent Living.
The conference theme this year was “Life with a Purpose during Innovative Times.” Because the incidence of disability increases with age, the needs of the aging population often coincide with those of people with disabilities. LEAP has, therefore, been expanding its collaborations with the WRAAA, Hogan said.
“As the baby boomers age, it will be essential for us to build coalitions between the aging and disability networks,” Hogan said.
