Communications Coordinator

Reports to: Executive Director

Location: Hybrid, in-office and remote

Position Summary

Responsible for the coordination of all internal and external communication functions. The Communications Coordinator supports LEAP’s program and fundraising activities through the development and distribution of digital and print marketing materials and communications.

Essential Job Functions


  • Implement marketing and communications plans to promote LEAP and its programs
    • Develop content for, create, and distribute promotional materials, including flyers, newsletters, e-newsletters, blog posts, social media posts, videos, and advertisements
    • Track, evaluate, and report on marketing and communications activities
  • Update, maintain, and follow LEAP’s branding standards
    • Ensure staff have access to the promotional materials and items necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities, including business cards, branded items, and flyers
    • Develop document, form, slideshow, and other templates for staff use
    • Assist in annual staff training on the brand guidelines
  • Ensure that any educational information distributed to the public or provided to the media is factually accurate
    • Work with program staff to understand LEAP’s services in order to properly market and promote them
    • Attend program activities and events to capture consumer stories and document and photograph the activity
    • Collaborate with compliance and program teams to collect and share accurate impact and outcome data
    • Ensure LEAP’s presence on external print and digital media is current and factually accurate
  • Represent LEAP at marketing and promotional events, including resource fairs and trade shows
  • Assist in the development of direct mail appeal letters, donation acknowledgement letters, print and digital newsletters, event communications, Annual Report, and other fundraising communications
  • Work with Executive Director and Board of Directors to update and revise marketing plan and related strategic documents
  • Manage positive and productive relationships with appropriate vendors

Digital Media

  • Maintain LEAP’s social media presences, including the creation and execution of a content calendar
  • Update and maintain LEAP’s website in concert with the developer
  • Work with IT contractor to maintain internal SharePoint and Teams to ensure appropriate and effective internal communications
  • Create and publish promotional videos as needed

Public & Media Relations

  • Represent LEAP in public relations activities as requested
  • Help prepare media statements and news releases
  • Coordinate public relations projects and maintain regular contact with various communications agencies


  • Participate in advocacy activities and encourage staff participation in addressing issues relating to programs of importance to people with disabilities
  • Participate in the Marketing and Fund Development committee of the Board
  • Assist in the development and execution of special events
  • Comply with the policies and procedures set forth by the organization
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities*

  • Strong ability to coordinate and implement communications strategies and to manage projects and/or events
  • The ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written forms
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, email tools, website research and publishing, social media management, donor management systems, and video creation and editing
  • Experience creating compelling, engaging, and ROI-driven digital and print content
  • Skilled in making formal presentations to community businesses and agencies and ability to represent LEAP to consumers and the community
  • Familiarity with marketing tools and techniques
  • The ability to work well independently, to organize priorities, and to produce identified outcomes in a and timely manner
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Good organization skills
  • Able to ensure cross-departmental collaboration on communications efforts
  • Ability to network with the community in strengthening partnerships
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Sensitivity to the needs of persons with disabilities

  • Must have reliable transportation
  • If driving a vehicle to provide community services must have a valid Ohio driver’s license, a clear driving record and proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage (are required to be maintained at all times for this position)

Qualification Standards

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or relevant field

  • 1-3 years of communications experience required
  • Experience in project management, special event planning, grant writing, fund raising, and/or program development preferred
  • Experience working with a variety of people with disabilities and familiarity with advocacy, vocational and community support programs as well as Independent Living Centers
