LEAP accepted to host an intern for The Cleveland Foundation’s Summer Internship Program

We are excited to be apart of this amazing program and are ready to start working with an intern this summer to help our youth with disabilities build the skills they need to help them prepare for work beyond high school.

This internship opportunity focuses on helping youth with disabilities gain meaningful work experience as well as develop their leadership and advocacy skills through two

First, LEAP is a summer host site for the Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) sponsored by the Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities. YLF is an intense week of engagement that gives youth with disabilities education and experience in areas of leadership and advocacy. There is a significant amount of planning, coordinating, organizing, acquiring resources, ensuring accessibility, engaging youth and their families, scheduling and developing program content for delivery. The intern will be involved with the development and execution of LEAP's YLF.

Secondly, interns will be working with LEAP’s summer youth employment program. This program, working with local employers, offers students with disabilities the opportunity to learn about work and develop good work habits, through the support of LEAP staff who are on-site at all times. The intern will work with employers, help youth build skills and develop new skills of their own in employer engagement, teaching work activities and work space skills, and problem solving.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in developing their skills to work and engage with a wide audience, including, individuals with disabilities, families, employers, other professionals, advocates, key decision makers (legislators), co-workers with disabilities, etc. You will learn how to deliver person-centered services and how to engage

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm! This position is people facing and the intern must be positive, engaging, encouraging and supportive - meeting students where they are, and helping them develop and work towards their personal goals.

Plus, interns should be familiar with Teams and Zoom (or knowledgeable and comfortable with virtual platforms to learn these quickly); be able to work with some autonomy; and must want to engage with the population of youth with disabilities and be passionate about making a difference in their lives.
