Elizabeth Rogers: Jesuit Volunteer Upholding Family Tradition
Posted on 09/23/24 by Isabel in LEAP Spotlight!
Elizabeth Rogers has continued a family tradition of service as a one-year Jesuit volunteer at LEAP. Much of her work involved employment and recreational activities for people with disabilities.
The Jesuit Volunteer Corp (JVC) describes its work as “through solidarity and service with local communities, fosters the formation of young people dedicated to a faith that promotes justice.” Through the JVC application process, Elizabeth was matched with five agencies. During her interview with LEAP, she got a “warm feeling during the interview” and decided to come to Cleveland. Over 30 years ago, Elizabeth’s mother also came to Cleveland as a Jesuit Volunteer and lived in the same house!
Elizabeth stated her LEAP experience exceeded expectations, and she felt very supported as a part of the team. It built upon a previous internship working with kids at a school for autism. In 2023, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies from Assumption University.
After taking a two-week break, Elizabeth plans to start a position as a Teacher’s Aide at Achievement Centers for Children in Westlake, Ohio.
