From Aspiration to Achievement: Terra's Story

Meet Terra, a proud consumer of LEAP’s employment services and a valued employee at Burlington. Terra’s journey to her current role wasn’t always easy, but with the unwavering support of LEAP, she successfully navigated the challenges to find the perfect fit.

Early Employment Challenges

Before joining LEAP, Terra explored her employment options through another organization. She tried three different jobs, but none were the right match. Undeterred, Terra reached out to LEAP, determined to secure permanent employment.

Discovering Passion and Potential with LEAP

Terra was paired with our dedicated employment specialist, Adam Walls. In their discussions, Adam discovered that Terra has a passion for animals. Leveraging this insight, he arranged for her to complete a community-based assessment (CBA) at Pet Supplies Plus. Terra describes the purpose of a CBA as “to know what you can do.” While Pet Supplies Plus ultimately couldn't offer her a position, the experience was invaluable for her development.

A Turning Point At Burlington

Through her time at the CBA, Adam gained a comprehensive understanding of Terra’s skills and potential. Encouraged by this, he suggested she apply for a role at Burlington. Following his advice, Terra landed an interview, and her determination and abilities left a lasting impression on the hiring team. They were so impressed that they offered her the job on the spot!

Thriving In Her Role

Now at Burlington, Terra serves as a door greeter, welcoming customers, monitoring for suspicious activity, and ensuring the shopping carts are clean and ready for use. Her friendly demeanor and commitment have not only positively impacted the store environment but also made her a beloved member of the team. She especially loves greeting smiling customers and their furry companions, a sight that warms the hearts of everyone around her.

Looking Ahead: Future Aspirations

Terra finds great joy in her role at Burlington, viewing it as a crucial step toward her long-term career aspirations. She hopes to work in the veterinary field in the future, ideally in a position focused on pet grooming.
