LEAP is excited to welcome Sarah Reuter as our new Jesuit Volunteer!

Sarah graduated this spring with a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She majored in biology, focusing on global health, and minored in English.

Sarah’s time at GU included though-provoking, introductory coursework on disability studies that piqued her interest and inspired her to seek an experiential learning opportunity that would provide a more holistic view of the topic.

“My coursework focused on the biological basis of disability,” Sarah said. “During my time with LEAP, I hope to develop a more comprehensive understanding of disability, including an understanding of how societal structures compound consumers’ physical and/or mental disabilities.”

After her year-long service with LEAP, Sarah plans to attend medical school and become a physician.

“I hope my work at LEAP will help me develop a more nuanced understanding of health,” Sarah said. “In addition, I hope to gain a better grasp of the strengths and shortcomings of the American healthcare system in its capacity to care for people with disabilities.”

To aid in achieving her personal development goals, Sarah has begun immersing herself in LEAP’s programs and services. She has taken an active role in the restart of in-person activities for Quantum LEAP, our adaptive recreation program for adults with disabilities, by collaborating with fellow staff to plan and implement enrichment programs covering healthy eating, mindfulness and other wellness topics.

Sarah also is looking forward to exploring opportunities to connect LEAP’s array of services in innovative ways to provide a more seamless, streamlined experience for consumers as we support them in achieving their independent living goals.

A Seattle, Washington, native, Sarah loves to bike, hike and kayak in her free time and is excited to explore all Cleveland has to offer.

“I love to run; I ran competitively in college,” Sarah said. “I’ve enjoyed discovering new running routes in the Ohio City neighborhood.”

Sarah began meeting consumers in the community on Monday, August 31st. Please join us in welcoming her to LEAP and Northeast Ohio!
