Personal Assistance

Personal assistance is a service that helps people with disabilities in performing such everyday activities as cooking, bathing, dressing, driving, shopping, and managing medications.

• The Personal Care Assistance Program helps adults with disabilities in hiring and managing personal care assistants. Participants in this program must be employed, preparing for employment, or pursuing employment training.
• Personal Assistance Management services help individuals who use personal assistants or caregivers to gain or strengthen their own managerial skills, regardless of whether the assistant or caregiver is hired by the individual, an employee of a home-health agency, or an independent provider. Relevant topics include identifying needs, hiring providers, day-to-day management, scheduling, developing a workable back-up plan, documentation, communication, and trouble-shooting.

Eligibility

LEAP serves northeast Ohioans with disabilities through several services developed to support independent living (including benefits, employment and recreation). The majority of our program services are funded by Federal and State agencies with specific eligibility guidelines.
